Liberia Holds First One Health Coordinating Platform Meeting

October 2017

Following the successful launch of Liberia’s One Health Platform in June, P&R supported Liberia’s first One Health Coordination Platform meeting on October 9, 2017. The meeting held to update partners on the progresses and challenges of implementing a One Health approach in Liberia.

Representatives from various ministries and government parastatals expressed serious commitment to the One Health approach and protecting Liberia from threatening diseases and epidemics through key meeting contributions.
The platform sought the endorsement of Liberia’s Vice President in declaring commitment to the institutionalization of One Health in the country. Vice President, Honorable Dr. Joseph N. Boakaiin, presided over the meeting as chair of the coordination platform and signed a declaration of commitment to One Health.

A roadmap was drafted to provide deadlines and guidelines for the platform’s staffing. The OHCP will update legislation and policies to enhance inter-sectoral collaboration, develop guidelines and SOPs for collaboration and improve the integration of wildlife surveillance into the overall One Health agenda as next steps.
