In preparation for the 3rd International Global Health Security Agenda Zoonotic Disease Action Package (GHSA ZDAP) International Conference in August 2017, P&R and the Vietnam One Health Partnership for Zoonoses supported key government representatives from Indonesia and Vietnam in convening a joint preparation meeting and exchange visit on May 29-31 in Jakarta. Indonesia and Vietnam, with the recent addition of Senegal, are global co-leading countries for GHSA ZDAP. The meeting was held to advance logistics planning as well as review the draft Terms of Reference for the ZDAP Coordination Mechanism that will be presented at the event.
During this two-and-a-half-day meeting, the Indonesia and Vietnam delegations also shared experiences in communication and zoonotic disease control. P&R has supported Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) in developing and piloting One Health Coordination Guidelines, which lay out the responsibilities of various ministries and mechanisms for coordination in responding to zoonotic diseases and pandemic threats, during both outbreak and “peacetime” situations. The Vietnam delegation also visited the Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency, which operates monitoring and coordination mechanisms to prepare and respond to both natural and non-natural disasters. The respective delegations also discussed ways to work together in an integrated approach to effectively control and prevent zoonosis outbreak and epidemics.
