The 3rd International Zoonotic Disease Action Package, ZDAP conference was held from the 29th-30th of August in Vietnam with a theme of strengthening cooperation and sharing effective One Health approaches. Within the forum, the status and progress of ZDAP activities and targets were reviewed within the framework of the ZDAP Action Plan. Over 150 delegates from various regional and international organizations attended alongside ZDAP contributing countries.
P&R facilitated a key session on One Health models for cross-sectoral coordination on zoonotic diseases using existing platforms in Indonesia, Bangladesh and Kenya, their organizational structures, significant contributions to national priorities and GHSA, and their potentials to contribute beyond the zoonosis action package. P&R addressed the relationship between ministries of health and ministries in charge of animal health and the environment, identifying lessons learned and best practices in cooperation and linking surveillance and diagnostic systems.
Multi-sectoral coordination mechanisms are important for zoonotic diseases and play a key role in supporting and facilitating GHSA action packages such as AMR, laboratories, surveillance, and others, involving a wide range of related sectors.
Prior to this ZDAP Conference, P&R participated and co-facilitated a technical working level pre-meeting involving the three leading ZDAP countries on August 28. At the closing of this year’s ZDAP conference, Senegal was introduced as a lead country for ZDAP and is set to host the next ZDAP conference.
